PAOK Saloniki - Olympiacos Piraeus

According to reports emanating from the Greek capital, recent developments in the Kostas Mitroglou transfer saga indicate the 22-year-old’s future isn’t as clear as previously thought.

Sources in Greece have reported that Thessaloniki giants PAOK FC are interested in bringing the Greece international to the Toumba Stadium this January, despite previous reports suggesting Olympiacos’ pre-arranged deal with Panionios GSS that brought Giannis Maniatis to Piraeus earlier this week.

Panionios coach Takis Lemonis remains confident Mitroglou will be headed to Nea Smyrni by week’s end, but Mitroglou’s initial desire to join Iraklis FC does make things interesting ahead of the board’s final decision.

With a berth in the UEFA Europa League knockout round, Mitroglou could be intrigued in the prospect of helping PAOK overcome Russian giants Zenit St. Petersburg in February. As well, reports also indicate that interest has come from Germany as the former Borussia Monchengladbach striker could be sent back to his roots this winter.

A final decision is expected on Monday.
